The Refreshing Spirit
We were on our way to Temple Grove Reunion in the heat of the summer of
1997. Rich & the kids had just come from South Crysler Reunion where he had
ministerial responsibilities that prohibited him from getting the air-conditioning
in our family van fixed. We had time only to go to a Laundromat to wash & dry our
clothes so we could repack and start east to Pennsylvania that same day. It was
SO hot!
As we began our trip, we prayed as we always do when traveling. A special
request in this prayer was that we would be able to withstand the effects of the
heat while we traveled, so that we would not take bedraggled, cranky spirits with
us into the midst of the Saints at Temple Grove.
Rich had the vents open and blowing to try to cool us down. One last time, he
turned on the AC, and lo and behold, cool air was coming out! It wasn’t really
cold, but it was pleasantly cool. We were so excited and grateful. The Lord
blessed us with cool air all the way to Temple Grove and all the way home. The
next day when we drove the van, the AC did not work at all.
What a merciful God; He gave us much more than we asked. We had only asked
to be spared the effects of the heat, and He provided the blessings of coolness
and comfort until we completed both legs of our travel. He does provide
abundant more than we ask.
