Testimonies of the Restoration Part 2
|
The testimonies on this page are those of Saints of the church from many years
ago. Most have gone on to their reward, yet their testimonies of their faith in
the work and hope for the Kingdom still serve to inspire us today. "Wherefore,
seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us
lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run
with patience the race that is set before us!" Hebrews 12:1
My conversion to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and my entire membership
is filled with amazing proof and testimonies that the Restoration Movement is of God.
While recovering from a severe operation in 1945 on one occasion I was awakened early in the morning
choking, unable to breathe, and lay back on my pillow waiting for the end. Shortly I was aware that
messengers were entering my room and the Spirit announced to me Joseph and Hyrum Smith.
This was not a dream nor a vision, but a real visitation.
They stood at the foot of my bed momentarily and Joseph said to Hyrum, "Let us pray." Joseph bowed his
head toward me and Hyrum bowed his head toward my wife on the adjoining bed—also quite ill. A short
prayer ensued and Joseph said, "Amen." They looked up, each glancing at both of us, and Joseph said
again, "Let us pray." This time Joseph bowed his head toward my wife and Hyrum bowed his head toward
me and a short prayer ensued, and Joseph said, "Amen."
Again looking up Joseph said to Hyrum, "He is to have another chance," and Hyrum replied, "Yes, I know."
Then a short pause, and Joseph said, "Well, shall we go?" and Hyrum replied, "Yes, I am ready," and they
walked out of my room as any two elders might have done who had come to administer to us.
A short time later I recovered from my cough with indisputable evidence of the divinity of the Restoration
Movement and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God.

THE TESTIMONY OF
SAMUEL M. WORRELL
I believe that the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is composed of individuals who
have an increasingly strong conviction of its divinity; that in the old, old path every individual can find a
place that will satisfy the hunger for good living that lies deep in the heart of every one of us. I bear
personal testimony to the divine direction which is available to us as a church.

Ours is the great challenge and opportunity to demonstrate to a confused world that the only permanent
solution for the world's grievous problems is to be found in the day-to-day application of the principles of
Latter Day Saint stewardship.
If we are to justify the mission of the Restoration Movement we must individually lead the way by proving
ourselves worthy stewards.
I am convinced that we must prove our capacity to function individually and co-operatively wherever we
are, thereby demonstrating the efficacy of our message.
It has been my humble privilege to observe numerous evidences that our Heavenly Father sup¬ports and
prospers his stewards if they work according to his plan.
THE TESTIMONY OF

PRESIDENT, Shellbrook, Saskatchewan Branch, Reorganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
I know—the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the custodian of the power and
the authority of the Restoration Movement. It is the kingdom of God on earth.
As a member of the church for more than forty years, over thirty-five of which have been spent in
priesthood activities, I have become more and more firmly grounded in its teachings, and the beauty and
significance of its sacraments. And as I have been called upon by my fellow-citizens to assist them in
obtaining their needs and just wants in social, economic, and political life; on community, provincial,
national, and international levels I have found in the revelations of Cod to the church of Jesus Christ,
through the Restoration prophet, the answer, the solution, if you please, to our problems and perplexities,
on all these levels. In this phase of my ministry I have found myself acquiring a deeper devotion toward
the ideals of the church and a firmer belief in its objective, the redemption of Zion.
Zion—not battleships or fighter-planes, not armies, tanks and bombs; but Zion, love of God and our fellow-
man, love in every sense of its fullest meaning, love which finds its fruition in Zion, the -pure in heart, can
and will bring peace to our world,
In my secular work I have been concerned for a number of years, at the national and international level,
with the promotion of trade between nations so that the maximum use may be made of the re¬sources of
the earth, thus raising standards of living; and establishing conditions favorable to peace. Such conditions
will develop as individuals and nations cease to make acquisition an end, and come to regard themselves
as stewards or trustees accountable to God for the way in which they use the physical, mental, and
spiritual resources over which they have been given dominion.
It is my conviction that the church has a mission to fulfill in spreading the idea of stewardship, and
inducing people to live by this principle. The conflicts that arise today as people strive to satisfy selfish
desires will be reduced by the wider application of the stewardship principle by individuals and nations.
Within the United Nations the idea of "trusteeship" over certain of the less developed areas has now been
accepted. As men develop a sense of responsibility to their Creator for the manner in which they use their
resources, they will help to establish peace on earth and good will among nations.
THE TESTIMONY OF
PERCE R. JUDD
CHIEF of the Commodity Section Department of Economic Affairs
United Nations
PRESIDENT, Brooklyn Branch, Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints
The most unforgettable experience I ever had is this testimony: After ten years at Stanford University as
Associate Supervisor in the department of Physical Education, I lost my job. I took a common laborer's job
at the Swift Packing Plant in South San Francisco, where the work was hard and faith testing. One
morning on my way to work, on a commuter's train, I read a poem by Ruth Incho in the Priesthood journal
entitled, "He Knows the Way." One of the lines read, "Have I not promised . . . though hard the journey to
walk closely by thy side?" When I reached the plant that morning, I was assigned to a large basement
room in the fertilizer department. The Swift Packing Plant wastes nothing that comes from an animal. All
refuse comes to this room to be processed for fertilizer. The stench was unbearable and made me sick. I
was alone with filth all around me. I remembered the poem, and I thought – I just thought - "I wonder if He
is down here in this filthy place close by my side?" Then it happened. Immediately the air became like the
sweetest perfume. I felt that I was not alone, yet I saw nothing different; I heard not a sound, but God
spoke to me through the sense of smell. I felt his Spirit strongly. Tears filled my eyes. I knew he was very
close to me. He had not forsaken me. Under those particular circumstances, God could not have revealed
himself to me in a more convincing manner than through the sense of smell.

THE TESTIMONY OF
E. J. GLEAZER JR.
PRESIDENT of Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa MEMBER of Iowa
College President's Association
SECRETARY-TREASURER of North Central Council of Junior Colleges
MEMBER of Administrative Committee of American Association of
Junior Colleges
PHI DELTA KAPPA, National Education Fraternity CANDIDATE FOR
DOCTORATE, Harvard University
MEMBER of Quorum of High Priests and Lamoni Stake Bishopric,
Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

My personal testimony as to the divinity of the gospel of Jesus Christ emanates from a rich, family
heritage as well as from continual striving to put the teachings and practices of the church into my
everyday life. I have found my conviction has come in proportion to the degree of faith, understanding,
wisdom, and application which I have manifested, rather than from any miraculous experience or
manifestation. From the testimonies evidenced in the lives of others and the spirit of faith which has come
to me, I have the added conviction that there is, through the practice of the Ten Commandments and
through the practice of the principles of the Restoration, the answer to the economic problems of today. I
believe in the soundness of the principles of the gospel in all endeavors, and when applied, they will
produce greater testimonies for the future.
THE TESTIMONY OF
FRANK MUSSELL
MANAGER, Eastern Territory, Tractor Division, Allis-Chalmers
Manufacturing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on leave of absence
to accept appointment as
DIRECTOR of Agriculture, Machinery and Implement Section, National
Production Authority, United States Department of Commerce
MEMBER of Quorum of High Priests, Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints

If I did not belong to this church, I feel that I would probably belong to none, because I think this is the only
one God intervened to establish and now intervenes directly to guide. The images men make for
themselves always bear the marks of the chisel. The only institution to which I can yield my permanent
allegiance is something which bears the mark of God's hand, not man's—the church which He now
warns, which He now directs.
I have seen some remarkable things in my own professional experience which have shaken any doubts I
may have had that the Lord still intervenes for physical healing. For example, I have seen a persistent and
stubborn fibrillation (an irregular irregularity of the heartbeat) which had resisted every standard
medication, disappear almost immediately after the elders had laid hands upon the patient's head. Years
before, the same patient had had a tremendously enlarged spleen that quickly became impalpable
following administration.
If a man is interested in eternal things, and feels his own insufficiency in the kind of world we live in, I
think that we can offer him some peace of mind, some guidance, and most of all, the feeling of being a
partner with Jesus in designs that are divinely wise, and, of course, invincible.

I have never doubted the divinity of the church. In my estimation, the principles maintained by our
organization are the only principles that will re¬deem the world. The objective of the Restored Gospel is to
develop givers of life, not destroyers of life. If the values that our church recognizes can be incorporated
into the personalities of the members of society, then spread into the institutions, and finally engulf the
entire social order, the will of the Lord will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
